Russell LDP has submitted plans for a mixed-use neighbourhood in Stockport, featuring new homes, care facilities, and community amenities.
Proposed development for Woodford, Stockport.
Russell LDP has submitted an outline planning application to Stockport council for up to 410 new homes, including 15 self-build plots in Woodford. The 30Ha site, located south of Chester Road, will bring much-needed housing to the local area, alongside enhancements to support existing infrastructure.
The proposed masterplan includes a diverse mix of housing, with 50% as affordable homes, as well as a 72-bed care home, and 72 extra care apartments, specifically designed for older residents.
The scheme includes a range of community-focused amenities, such as healthcare (GP or dental practice), a children's day nursery, small retail provision, two play areas, allotments, a community orchard and a 6.2Ha nature park.
We want to thank those who attended our consultation events in Woodford back in July. Since then, we've taken on board the feedback received and sought to revise our proposals to reflect the needs expressed by the community. The updated plans now include provision of healthcare facilities, a day nursery, and small retail units that could be suitable for a post office, alongside refinements to the housing layout.
Our proposals directly respond to the acute need across Stockport for specialist elderly care accommodation and general housing in a comprehensive and sustainable way. The illustrative masterplan is based on a landscape-led approach, which provides the public with greater access to quality open spaces.
The submission of the application provides an opportunity for discussions around education and public transport, and continues dialogue with statutory consultees.
